Manchester United have lowered their interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen due to his €100 million price tag, according to reports.

Victor Osimhen has been linked fairly heavily to Manchester United in recent weeks, with the striker said to be part of Erik ten Hag‘s striker wish list as he looks for a more long term solution to a lack of goals in the squad.

At 25 years of age, Osimhen has established himself as a one of the top gunmen across the continent, leading the way in Napoli’s historic title charge scoring 13 goals and providing a further four assists in the 15 Serie A games he has featured in this season.

However, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Osimhen is no longer Manchester United’s priority transfer target.

The biggest problem in relation to the deal for United, according to Plettenberg, is that Osimhen is simply too expensive. Napoli are said to want more than €100 million for the Nigerian striker, a sum which United are unwilling to meet.

Manchester United spent just over £210 million last summer, bringing in six players for Erik ten Hag, and head of football negotiations Tom Keane recently left the club after an 11-week placement over said summer.

United are said to be looking for “cheaper options” as an alternative to Osimhen.

One name that has become synonymous with United in the last month is Tottenham’s Harry Kane. Despite reportedly being open to a move to Manchester United, it has been revealed that Kane’s priority is to try and stay to win trophies with the Lilywhites, and is set to enter talks over a new deal at Spurs with Kane in the final 18 months of his current contract.

Tottenham will have to make a key decision as to if they want to renew Kane’s deal, which would make him their highest ever paid player at 29 years of age, or sell him in the summer for a hefty profit, most likely around the £85 million mark.
