Manchester United have suffered a setback in negotiations with a starlet who is expected to depart the club at the start of next week.

The Reds are focused on improving their squad this summer after it was confirmed that Erik ten Hag will stay at the club.

There are also several contract situations that need to be clarified ahead of next week, with several players’ deals running out at the end of the month.

Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are both negotiating with the club. Reports have claimed that Evans and United have reached an agreement on the one-year extension.

However, the club have also been negotiating with 20-year-old starlet Shola Shoretire, whose contract also runs out next week.

According to Manchester World, Shoretire is expected to leave United as a free agent despite being offered a new contract by the club.

It was explained that although United still hope to reach a last-minute agreement, it is increasingly anticipated that he will depart for free once his contract expires.

United still believe they can support Shoretire’s development through pre-season opportunities and a potential loan next season. However, the player is considering all his options.

The report concluded that the club has been negotiating with Shoretire for several months and were only willing to let him leave on loan during the January window if he signed a new contract.

Shoretire made his senior debut for United in the 2021/22 campaign at the age of 17 and shortly afterwards became the youngest player at the club to make a European appearance.

He has not made a first-team appearance since the final day of the season in 2021/22 and has since had a spell on loan at Bolton.
