Manchester United confirm USA pre-season squad as Rúben Amorim leaves “world-class talent” at Carrington

Manchester United have announced the squad that Rúben Amorim will be taking to the United States section of the club’s pre-season tour.

Manchester United are set to begin the United States leg of their pre-season tour, with Rúben Amorim continuing to gear up for his first full season as first-team head coach.

Their pre-season opener ended in a 0-0 draw with Leeds United in Stockholm, though standout performances from Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, and new arrival Matheus Cunha offered plenty of positives.

Next, Amorim’s squad will take on Graham Potter’s West Ham in New Jersey as part of the Premier League Summer Series, which also includes matches against Everton and Bournemouth.

The team will be based in Chicago for 10 days, facing the other participating clubs before returning to Old Trafford to take on David de Gea’s Fiorentina, their final friendly ahead of the new campaign.

United announce their pre-season squad

United’s players are scheduled to fly to the United States on Tuesday afternoon, with many of the team’s key players on the flight.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes is with the side after rejecting a major contract offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. At the same time, Joshua Zirkzee has returned after missing the trip to Sweden last week due to a minor injury.

Rasmus Højlund is also part of the squad despite speculations surrounding his future, and was pictured with Casemiro, Noussair Mazraoui, and others as the players left Carrington on Tuesday.

Amorim has also selected André Onana and Lisandro Martínez as part of his squad. While both players are expected to miss the three upcoming fixtures due to injury, the head coach values their leadership skills and the close bonds they share with the other players and wants them to remain with the side.

New signings Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon have all travelled as they look to settle into life at their new club in the coming weeks.

However, “world-class talent” Shea Lacey has missed out on the squad selection, with the 18-year-old nursing a slight injury. After good performances during the club’s post-season tour, it’s unfortunate that he will not have a chance to impress.

However, other Academy stars, such as Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricsion, and Bendito Mantato, have also been included and are expected to be involved in at least one fixture.

Meanwhile, with Marcus Rashford in Barcelona to seal a move to the Catalan giants, he has not been selected. Harry Maguire has not been included as he has to attend a personal matter, it is unclear whether he will join up with the squad at a later date.

Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Jadon Sancho also remain away from the first-team squad as they look to finalise transfers out of Manchester this summer.
