Manchester United confirm U-turn on sale as “amazing” star remains in Ruben Amorim’s plans

Manchester United have confirmed that they will not be selling one of Ruben Amorim’s stars despite previous suggestions that he could leave the club.

Despite losing 1-0 against Arsenal in their season opener, Manchester United are hoping for a much improved campaign this time around.

Ruben Amorim has a much more threatening frontline after the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

But there are also other players who are expected to step up after their underwhelming performances from last season.

Question marks remain over several Reds and whether they will still be at the club once the summer transfer window slams shut in a couple of weeks.

United confirm U-turn on Zirkzee sale

Joshua Zirkzee was one player who looked like he may be sold under Amorim as he didn’t suit his system. Rumours suggested that a January exit was on the cards earlier this year.

But the Dutchman turned things around and found form in the no.10 role under Amorim, with some praise for “amazing” performances.

While major improvement is still needed, United have seemingly made a U-turn on their stance about Zirkzee, as shown by their response to recent interest in him.

Reports from Italy this week revealed that Zirkzee had become Napoli’s favourite choice to replace Romelu Lukaku, who has suffered a serious injury.

But Fabrizio Romano has stated that United consider the forward ‘as not for sale this summer’ and that has been communicated to other clubs.

He explained that the decision was made by Amorim and the United board several months ago.

Zirkzee will get plenty of chances

It still isn’t obvious to see where Zirkzee fits into the new-look attack at Old Trafford and it is a shame that he didn’t get time to work with Mbeumo and Cunha in pre-season.

But the idea of him playing centre-forward and dropping deeper while those two make runs in behind and attack the backline is promising.

Sesko will certainly be starting plenty of games but there will be chances for Zirkzee, who has clearly impressed the United boss.

His turnaround has been good to see and fans will be hoping that he can keep improving once he’s back in action this season.
