Manchester United have confirmed three other shirt number changes after they handed the No. 10 kit to new signing Matheus Cunha.
Rúben Amorim’s side returned to pre-season training on Monday as Manchester United begin preparations for the 2025/26 season.
Following just under two weeks at Carrington, the squad will head off on a five-game pre-season tour. Their first match will take place in Sweden against long-standing rivals Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena.
United will then travel to the United States for fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, before wrapping up their preparations at Old Trafford with a friendly against Fiorentina, who now have former United goalkeeper David de Gea in their ranks.
The Premier League have confirmed that United will start the new season with a high-profile meeting with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 August, kicking off at 16:30 BST.
United confirm four shirt number changes
On Tuesday afternoon, United confirmed that Matheus Cunha had been handed the club’s prestigious No. 10 shirt, taking over from the departing Marcus Rashford.
However, the club have also confirmed that three other United players have now been gifted new numbers as a recognition of their improving status in the first team.
Shea Lacey has moved from No. 72 to No. 61, Bendito Mantato has been handed the No. 75 after holding the No. 80 last season, and Reece Munro switched from No. 79 to No. 65.
Mantato’s switch comes just a few months after he signed his first professional contract, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract.
Amorim keeping a close eye on five youngsters
On the first day of pre-season training, 15 members of Manchester United’s first team and fringe Academy players reported to Carrington, with the rest of the squad expected to return later in the week following international duty.
The opening session was largely focused on medical and fitness assessments carried out by the club’s coaching and medical staff, but United also shared glimpses of the action from the training pitch.
According to the club’s website, Amorim took part in a rondo alongside Amad and five of United’s Academy talents, keen to get a close look at the youngsters ahead of the upcoming five-match pre-season schedule.
The group included Tyler Fredricson, who made his debut last season, Lacey, who stood out during the post-season tour, summer arrival Diego Leon, and Academy prospects Mantato and Munro, all of whom had the chance to showcase their skills in close proximity to the new head coach.
