Manchester United’s ex-chief scout reveals Erik ten Hag signing could leave in January
Manchester United’s former chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that one of Erik ten Hag’s signings could leave the club in the January transfer window.
Ten Hag’s side have faced major difficulties so far this season with just three wins in their opening 10 fixtures.
With just two Premier League wins and eight points in their opening seven league fixtures, it is United’s worst ever start to a season since the competition was rebranded in 1992.
Question marks surround the manager and his team following this poor start, especially after INEOS controversially decided to keep him after a disappointing overall season last term.
United scout reveals potential January exit
According to GiveMeSport, Mick Brown, United’s chief scout during the early 2000s, is still well connected to the club after his decade-long stint at Old Trafford.
Brown has suggested that Casemiro could leave the club in the January transfer window after a move did not materialise during the summer.
United ‘would love’ to offload the 32-year-old midfielder, Brown adds, with the former Real Madrid man no longer an undeniable starter in United’s best team.
“I’m told they’ll look to cash in on him as soon as they can, on the 1st January if possible,” the former scout told Football Insider.
“He’s one of the biggest wage-earners and he’s not going to feature regularly in the first team. He’s been benched because he hasn’t been performing and can’t do it any more.
“I’m sure they would love to offload him if they could to get him out of the squad and off the wage bill, which would allow them to spend some money.
“Whether it’s a move to Saudi Arabia or elsewhere, you’ve got to find someone who’s willing to pay the money both to United and to him. They’re not going to make back anywhere near what they paid for him but they’ll look to bring in some money if they do let him go.”
Erik ten Hag transfer questions
Erik ten Hag lauded the signing of Casemiro in 2022 despite missing out on his preferred midfield target in Frenkie de Jong.
He still supports the Brazilian despite his struggles since that debut campaign in 2022/23 but he is yet another player signed under the Dutchman to underwhelm.
The likes of Antony, Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia have all had minimal impacts for the club, among others.
