Manchester United have reportedly changed their minds about Rayan Cherki following his goal against them in the Europa League in midweek.
Manchester United are expected to make attacking reinforcements a top priority this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.
Other than Bruno Fernandes, United’s forwards have struggled for form, with the front three often failing to contribute effectively in the final third. Their inconsistent home displays at Old Trafford have only fuelled growing frustration.
In January, the club loaned out several attacking players — Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall — leaving noticeable gaps in the squad.
With no attacking reinforcements brought in during the winter window, United are now expected to pursue multiple signings capable of playing across Amorim’s front line, whether as wide attackers or central strikers.
United change their minds about Cherki
Rayan Cherki is a name United fans have become distinctly familiar with after he scored a 95th-minute equaliser against the Reds during a 2-2 Europa League draw against Lyon last Thursday.
Many reports have stated that United previously had interest in the player but were yet to make a move this summer, but according to The Mirror, there has been a change of plan.
The report states that following the Lyon fixture United are now leading the race to sign the 21-year-old this summer.
Having monitored the forward’s “jaw-dropping” progress in the last few months, Amorim’s club are now set to make a move for the French U21 international.
United are said to have a “head start” in attracting him to Old Trafford this summer as he remembers how well he was treated when shown around Carrington as a 16-year-old before eventually signing a professional contract with Lyon instead.
How much will Cherki cost this summer?
Although Cherki is known to have a release clause of £25 million in his current contract, the above report states that United could secure the talented player for £20 million instead amid the Ligue 1 side’s struggling financial situation.

However, it should also be noted that several other clubs, such as Liverpool, are also monitoring the progress, and should others launch campaigns to secure Cherki, this could lead to a bidding war.
Cherki has been touted as a perfect fit for Amorim’s wide attacking-midfield role on the right-hand side of his system.
With United strapped for cash this summer, they are looking to make value-for-money buys, and Cherki may represent the perfect option for Amorim to improve his squad without breaking the bank.
