Manchester United have a slim chance of qualifying for European competition next season, which is set to impact their summer transfer business.
It is no secret to anyone that Manchester United have an important summer transfer window coming up at the end of the season.
Ruben Amorim has experienced major difficulties at Old Trafford since coming in and that is partly down to the level of the squad.
United have many players who need to leave and a lot of positions to improve upon by bringing in additions.
However, the club do not have an unlimited budget – far from it – and will have to act smart to bring in as many top quality targets as possible.
One thing that will impact United’s ability to spend is whether they have European football to play next season. They are currently 14th in the Premier League, having little chance of qualifying that way.
The only chance Amorim’s side have is through winning the Europa League, which would then secure them a place in the 2025/26 Champions League campaign.
United can secure Quenda deal without Europe
United fans will also be wondering what happens if they are knocked out of the Europa League. Not only would it impact the budget, but also United’s ability to convince certain players of joining.
For example, it would seem difficult to bring in a world-class striker like Victor Osimhen without the lure of Champions League football.
However, The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell has revealed that European qualification seems to have no baring on United’s ability to sign Geovany Quenda next summer.
Asked whether United can prepare for summer transfers amid their uncertain position with Europe, Whitwell wrote: “I think some transfers supersede United’s European status. Quenda being one.
“[I] could see that happening whatever, so long as United and Sporting agree a fee. But generally yes, it is hard – particular to attract genuine elite talent.”
Reports have suggested that United are the favourites to sign Quenda in the summer. The young wide-player was brought into the Sporting first-team under Amorim, who labelled him as a “very talented” player.
Amorim convinced United can secure top signings without Europe
Amorim recognises how securing European football through the Europa League can be huge for the club ahead of the summer.
But, like the report suggests, the United boss also believes that the Reds can secure top signings without Champions League football.

“So I know it’s a massive pressure but I will say it again: Manchester United can call all the best players, even without Champions League in the future,” he told reporters.
“We have to change a lot of things and we’re trying to do that. There’s more important things than winning cups in this moment.
“That is my feeling, but I understand winning Europa League can change everything for us in the next season.”
