Manchester United bosses to conduct ‘post-season review’ as Ruben Amorim braced for two difficult questions

The Manchester United hierarchy are planning to have a post-season review with Ruben Amorim after his first six months in charge of the club.

Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim last November following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese manager quickly set about introducing his preferred tactical system.

Six months on, however, the situation in the Premier League has deteriorated further. With just two matches remaining, United find themselves languishing in 16th place.

Remarkably, they still have a shot at Champions League qualification, thanks to an upcoming Europa League final against fellow underachievers Tottenham Hotspur.

Nonetheless, the disastrous domestic campaign won’t be easily overlooked, regardless of the outcome in Bilbao later this month.

United bosses will conduct post-season review with Amorim

Regardless of the end result in the Europa League final, United’s bosses are set to review Amorim’s position in the summer, reports from the Daily Star claim.

It was explained that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and chief executive Omar Berrada will hold talks with the Portuguese head coach once the season is finished.

Two of the main topics the cub chiefs want to discuss with Amorim are the problems he has encountered so far at Old Trafford and assessing whether he is still the right man for the job going forward.

Amorim admitted in his latest press conference that the club should sack him if the performances are not improved at the start of next season. He is brutally honest about the situation he is in and that has led to some criticism.

Amorim needs to have tough United conversations

Reports elsewhere have suggested that sacking Amorim and his staff would cost the club around £20 million and the feels like too large an outlay to make before he even has a pre-season.

You can’t hide from the fact that things have been awful this season, especially in the Premier League, but the United job has been hard enough for every manager post-Sir Alex Ferguson, let alone for the guy walking into one of the worst squads in recent club history during the middle of a season.

There’s no doubt that Amorim has to show incredible improvements heading into the 2025/26 campaign and tough conversations need to be had this summer to identify the biggest problems.

Ratcliffe has already thrown his support behind the 40-year-old, who he thinks has done well in a tough position, but the British billionaire’s patience is surely being tested.
