Manchester United backtrack from potential transfer due to ‘major flaw’ being exposed
Manchester United have backtracked from one potential transfer next year as a ‘major flaw’ has been exposed.
Ruben Amorim is getting used to life at Manchester United after being appointed as head coach last month.
The Reds have won twice, drawn once and lost once since the Portuguese boss took over at Old Trafford.
He has been using this time to analyse his players and get them used to his new-look 3-4-3 system, which has seen varying degrees of success so far.
It is obvious that Amorim will nee reinforcements in the upcoming transfer windows to be able to thrive with his setup. Wingbacks have already been linked with the club for a 2025 transfer.
However, despite some good performances from the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Højlund, the club are still reportedly eyeing a centre-forward signing next year.
United have talent in the frontline but there isn’t really a consistent goal-threat within the squad. The hope is that Amorim can improve the likes of Højlund like he did for Viktor Gyökeres at Sporting.
But that might not be possible and there have been several no.9s linked with a move to United in recent weeks, including Bayer Leverkusen’s danger-man Victor Boniface.
Boniface scored 21 goals in 34 appearances last season during Leverkusen’s incredible campaign, in which they won the Bundesliga with an unbeaten record.
Reports have claimed that the 23-year-old is an option for United to sign in the coming year but new information from Fussball.News suggests that a deal may not happen.
The German outlet states that United are not pushing for a move for the young striker despite reports elsewhere claiming otherwise.
It was added that his injury history is seen at United as his ‘one major flaw’ and a major block to any move happening.
Boniface has suffered two cruciate ligaments tears in his career so far and was out for several months last season with a thigh injury. Those at Old Trafford are familiar with how these kind of injuries can impact a player, with Luke Shaw still suffering his own issues.
The report concluded that these injury issues ‘concerns’ United, who will look elsewhere for a potential striker addition.
