Manchester United answer Harry Maguire’s transfer plea as Fabrizio Romano provides huge update

Manchester United have started to answer Harry Maguire’s transfer plea as Fabrizio Romano explains a major transfer update at Old Trafford.

With just a couple of weeks remaining in Manchester United’s season, many fans are eager for it to come to an end following a disappointing Premier League campaign.

While a shot at Europa League glory still looms this week—with Ruben Amorim’s side set to face Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao—major issues remain that must be addressed in the summer transfer window, regardless of the outcome.

Numerous areas across the squad require reinforcement, with the forward line standing out as a key priority. Building greater depth throughout the team is absolutely essential.

Matheus Cunha appears to be the main transfer target at Old Trafford and there have been positive movements in getting a deal over the line in recent days.

The desperate need for reinforcements at the club is something even those inside the squad know needs to occur this summer.

In fact, when speaking to the media last week, Harry Maguire explained the importance of getting quality signings through the door, with the increased competition being crucial for those currently at the club.

“We need more players in the summer, we need help. I want as many as we can [players] to make the squad competitive so people can compete for places,” he explained.

“I want to be in a successful team and want good players through the door. The club will get it right in the summer and we will improve a lot.”

United have now appeared to answer the defender, with Fabrizio Romano explaining that a full agreement for Cunha is closing in.

The transfer expert has revealed that an agreement on personal terms with the Brazilian is being finalised and the ‘Here We Go’ will come soon afterwards, with United prepared to activate his release clause.

Cunha is expected to be the first signing of the summer and he would bring much needed quality to the frontline, however, there are still a lot of other positions which need strengthening.

United aiming to strengthen in many positions

Like Maguire mentioned, the existing players need help and that has to come through several high quality signings this summer. Cunha is a good start but more business needs to be done.

At least one striker has to come on, with Liam Delap looking like the frontrunner, although it would be ideal to see two centre-forwards join the club.

The midfield is also an area which needs improvement, with that becoming one of the Reds’ latest transfer priorities. Ederson from Atalanta has been linked with a move. Wingbacks could also do with extra quality.

There is clearly a lot of work to do but the fact that United are likely to agree a deal for one signing before the window even opens is a good sign that the club chiefs will give Maguire and the rest of the squad the needed reinforcements everyone is craving for.
