Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Matheus Cunha.
Manchester United’s summer has started incredibly fast, with Rúben Amorim already making several decisions regarding who he wants in his squad next summer.
United will let go of Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf once their contracts expire next month. The head coach has also reportedly told Alejandro Garnacho that he is free to find a new club this summer.
Amorim is looking to strengthen his squad in a number of positions across the next couple of months, with the attacking positions and a new midfielder a priority.
The recruitment department are looking to sign players they believe are better suited to the physical demands of the Premier League, with Amorim’s sides continually failing to properly deal with league oppositions’ pace and power.
United agree payment terms with Wolves for Cunha
United are closing in on a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, with it already having been stated in the media that the club will pay the value of his £62.5 million release clause.
However, with a release clause often requiring full payment up front to be triggered, United entered into negotiations with the Premier League side to find an alternative payment structure. According to journalist Nicolò Schira, this has now been found.
Schira claims that, following negotiations, United and Wovles have settled on an agreement that Amorim’s club will pay the £62.5 million across three instalments.
Further, Schira states that Cunha will sign a five-year deal with United until 2030, with the club retaining an option to extend this until 2031 should they wish.
When will Cunha’s transfer be announced?
With United close to finalising the deal, many are wondering when the club will choose to announce the Brazilian as a new Amorim player.
According to iSport, the deal is almost finalised, and could be announced as early as Sunday afternoon should the two clubs reach a final agreement in time.
However, United have often stayed away from announcing when agreements have been reached for new signings of late, and tended only to announce the player once they had put pen to paper on their United contract and undertaken their respective media duties.
Therefore, it is more likely that, with a deal for Cunha agreed and personal terms finalised, the club could wait to announce his transfer later next week. The 25-year-old could undergo his pre-signing duties while the club is on its post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong.
