Manchester United have seemingly adjusted their plan surrounding Chido Obi-Martin as the club are ‘eager to keep a lid’ on the hype surrounding the teenager.

Chido Obi-Martin joined Manchester United earlier this season after a long process of getting his move approved by the Football Association and Premier League.

The Danish teenager made his name by scoring an incredible amount of goals for Arsenal at youth level. He netted 10 goals in one game against Liverpool before going onto score 32 goals for their Under-18s last term.

Obi-Martin introduced himself to United by scoring a 14 minute hat-trick on his full debut for the Under-18s, with his first goal coming after 13 seconds.

The 16-year-old is clearly a highly-talented forward and the first-team currently only have Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund as no.9s in the squad.

Some summer reports claimed that Obi-Martin would be behind them two in the pecking order and could progress to first-team football sooner than expected.

However, the latest reports from MailOnline have explained that the Reds are eager to keep a lid on the hype surrounding Obi-Martin, who was the centre of attention for the fanbase on Saturday afternoon.

It was said that Obi-Martin has been wowing teammates and coaches with his skill level shown at Carrington but a first-team debut isn’t exactly close to coming.

Instead, the report claims that, for now, he is expected to continue in Adam Lawrence’s Under-18s side. United are wary of adding to the already huge amounts of pressure on his shoulders by fast-tracking him through the ranks.

It is an understandable stance for the club, with many forgetting that Obi-Martin is still only 16 years of age.

However, if his first start for the club is anything to go by, it might be difficult to keep him in that Under-18s side for too long.

Under-21s football in the PL2 presents a more difficult challenge against older and strong opposition while he can still build his game away from the first-team spotlight.
