Manchester United add top quality wing-back to January targets, Ruben Amorim ‘very interested’

Manchester United have started preparing for the January transfer window early and have added a top-quality wing-back to their wish list. Ruben Amorim is ‘very interested’.

Despite spending north of £200 million in the summer transfer window, Manchester United’s transfer activity has been questioned in the first few games of the season.

Ruben Amorim’s side added four new first-team players to their squad, with all three outfielders being forwards to bolster their struggling frontline, whilst Senne Lammens was introduced as competition between the sticks.

Even with these new additions, United have started the season slowly and currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League, following a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

The Reds were rumoured to be in the market for a plethora of different midfield and defensive targets, although none of these links ever came to fruition, which has left United slightly thin in certain departments.

United target Inter’s Dimarco

It is now being reported that the Red Devils have already turned their attention towards the January transfer window, with them showing interest in one of the world’s highest-rated wing-backs.

Il Napolista have reported that Amorim’s side are targeting Federico Dimarco from Inter Milan, as they see him as an ideal fit for their 3-4-2-1 system.

The Portuguese tactician is said to be ‘very interested’ in the Italian wing-back, despite coming off the back of a difficult season, which saw him achieve ninety minutes only five times.

Inter’s 27-year-old left wing-back would come in as competition for Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, who bagged an assist in United’s win over Chelsea at the weekend.

An astute deal suits United

With Dimarco’s contract expiring in 2027, a January 2026 sale seems ideal for both parties and could be a very practical deal for Amorim’s side as they look to improve their squad depth.

It is clear that the Italian defender has an abundance of technical quality, but his physical decline over the past 12 months has been very noticeable.

Despite this decline, he would still add a new range of skills to United’s side and could provide an ideal stopgap while Dorgu, Diego Leon, or even Harry Amass develop.

The Reds are already reaping the rewards of purchasing ‘ready-now’ stars, such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, so continuing this philosophy seems like a smart idea.
