Manchester United have £85m solution to Bruno Fernandes problem, he’s already said he ‘loves’ it
Manchester United have an £85 million solution to their Bruno Fernandes problem and he’s already said that he would ‘love’ it.
Fernandes, 29, was named United’s Player of the Season for his performance in the 2023/24 campaign and was instrumental in their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Despite his success, the club captain has been the subject of persistent rumours regarding his future at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
It has been reported that Bayern Munich and Barcelona have already contacted Fernandes’ representatives to explore the terms of a potential transfer and may soon take formal steps—although other outlets have pushed back on these suggestions.
These developments follow on from Fernandes’ statement expressing his desire to remain at United, provided the club’s ambitions align with his own.
INEOS have since assured the 29-year-old that they consider him a vital component of their rebuilding strategy, but he will be awaiting to see whether they are prepared to back up their words in the transfer market.
With the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, a third midfielder is needed to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Fernandes.
Joao Neves has been linked as a potential option and it is rumoured that United have had an opening offer of around £50 million rejected by Benfica.
However, those reports have suggested that an offer in the region of £85 million could be enough to convince the Portuguese side, and it would be a move that would display the ambition Fernandes desires.
The club captain has already explained that he believes Neves is ready for the step up after an excellent 2023/24 campaign and has claimed that he would ‘love’ to see his fellow countryman move to Old Trafford.
He told Sport TV last year: “I don’t know if United rumours are true, but I know he is ready for that big jump. I would love to have him at United. But it’s Joao’s choice… He has top quality.
“He is an excellent player, and he’s with the national team… that’s also why the big clubs are after him.”
