Manchester United fans can breath a sigh of relief after a manager confirmed a “mistake” with one player during the international break.

The Reds have had a difficult start to the new campaign, with just three wins in their opening 10 games.

In the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s side sit 14th in the table and have to improve when they return to action against Brentford this weekend.

Like last term, there have been injury concerns in recent weeks. Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw are yet to make an appearance this season.

Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Noussair Mazraoui all had to pull out of international duty last week. Meanwhile, the fitness of Rasmus Højlund and Manuel Ugarte are topics of concern after their International exploits.

Martínez concern for Argentina explained

These worries looked to be even worse when it was reported that Lisandro Martínez arrived to Argentina duty with an issue. Then, the centre-back was left out of the starting lineup to face Bolivia on Tuesday evening.

However, it has since been confirmed by Argentina boss Lionel Scanoli that there is no injury concern for the 26-year-old, who explained that he decided to start Nicolas Otimendi over the United man.

Scanoli explained that managers will sometimes make mistakes with their team selections when asked further on Martínez’s absence from the lineup, although after a 6-0 win, this does not fit that category.

“[Licha Martinez] is fine. He did not play because we decided that Otamendi should play,” Scaloni explained ahead of the game, in which Martínez came on as a second half substitute.

“We decided based on what we see and believe. Sometimes, we make mistakes. Ota played because we saw him well and we believed that he could play.

“Licha is fine and does not have a problem. He will want to play and we will decide.”

United fans will breath a sigh of relief despite Martínez’s rocky start to the season. He was one of the club’s best players in his debut season and Ten Hag needs him to reach that level again.

Injuries have been the most prominent issue for the Argentine but thankfully he looks set to be fit for the upcoming Brentford clash.
