Manager claims “we will do everything” to sign Manchester United star after ‘fantastic development’

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has claimed that the Championship side ‘will do everything’ to extend Harry Amass’ time on loan from Manchester United.

Manchester United’s choice to loan Harry Amass to Sheffield Wednesday at the beginning of the season raised plenty of questions.

The Championship club has endured significant financial instability under its former ownership, with both players and staff experiencing delayed wage payments.

After Dejphon Chansiri placed the club into administration last month and later stepped aside, Wednesday now find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table, carrying a negative points total due to imposed sanctions.

In spite of the turmoil, Amass’ time at the club has been largely encouraging. The highly regarded defender has started all 16 league games since joining, and scored his first professional goal against Southampton earlier in the season.

Manager claims “we will do everything” to keep Amass

While Amass’ loan at Wednesday is until the end of the season, there was a break clause included in January and the United starlet has plenty of interest from other clubs after his strong start to the season.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has been speaking about the youngster’s situation and praised his ‘fantastic development’ so far this term.

He has also claimed that the club ‘will do everything’ to keep Amass at Hillsborough and that it is a ‘good match’ for United and the player.

“I think he has had a fantastic development,” Pedersen said of Amass. “A bit like Charlie [McNeill], a big talent, but what is big talent?

“With young players, we know they can do something, and then they are a little bit sometimes good, sometimes not good. Sometimes there’s a big difference in the level of the performance.

“I think Harry started the season very well, then he had a little bit where he went down. Not down, but where it was more unstable. But then in the last five, six games he has been very strong.

“He does a great job, and he does a great job together with his teammates because, again, nobody can do something alone – and it is the same for Harry.

“But Harry has played a fantastic season. I’m sure that we will do everything to keep him, and I’m also sure that for Harry and for United it’s a good match right now.”

Amass is being prepared for United

Pedersen is correct that the loan is a good match as Amass is playing every single week for Wednesday. While he could move to a side challenging at the other end of the table, there would be no where near as much of a guarantee over his playing time.

The struggles at Wednesday are also aiding Amass. He must perform even when there is a lot of external noise. That is exactly what happens at Old Trafford.

“I’ve not let it effect me,” the teenager stated when asked how he’s handled coming into a club in administration.

“I think I’ve just come in to enjoy my football, be part of the team and try and get results. All of the other stuff, I don’t really let it effect the way I play or think, nothing really matters when you’re on the pitch.”
