Alejandro Garnacho’s pending departure from Manchester United has taken another huge twist as Napoli’s president has denied releasing any statement or interview on the Argentine.
In a busy summer filled with plenty of potential incomings and outgoings, one of Manchester United’s want-away stars has seen yet another twist regarding his departure.
Having clearly fallen out of favour with manager Ruben Amorim, this summer presented Alejandro Garnacho with an opportunity to seek pastures new.
The 21-year-old winger has already seen his replacement enter the frame, with the £62.5million Matheus Cunha arriving for pre-season on Monday, taking the No. 10 shirt in the process.
Garnacho has been linked with a selection of different clubs so far, with no concrete advancements yet. Napoli are one of the frontrunners for the Argentine’s signature, but their president has come out to deny his previous damning statement.
Napoli president denies statement
It was recently reported by English outlets that Napoli’s president primarily wanted to sign Garnacho due to the club he played for, claiming that United are ‘faulty’.
The reported statement read, “Garnacho’s got pace, flair and potential, but that’s not even why we want him. We want him because he’s at United. Get him out, and he becomes twice the player. There’s a fault at United that I can’t explain.”
However, Fabrizio Romano has since reported on X that the statement released was false, and claims that Napoli president De Laurentiis has not made any comments regarding United’s star.
The Italian transfer expert also went on to add that at this moment in time, Napoli are not working on the Garnacho deal.
Where next for Garnacho?
As reported by Romano, it is clear that Napoli aren’t in fact working on the Garnacho deal like many speculated. If Napoli are out of the running, then who remains?
The 2004-born winger has reported interest from Chelsea, who looked to make a deal during the January transfer window.

Bayer Leverkusen also hold an interest, but a potential reunion with Erik Ten Hag has been squashed by Romano, who stated on X that ‘there’s currently no chance for Alejandro Garnacho deal to happen’.
With options whittling down for United’s want-away star, the next few weeks will definitely be interesting to watch unfold as Garnacho’s future hangs in the balance.
