Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have slammed one Manchester United star following an “embarrassing” moment against West Ham.

Manchester United’s woes in the Premier League deepened with a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.

The Reds created a series of promising chances in the first half, but efforts from Højlund, Fernandes, and Dalot went unconverted, leaving the door open for West Ham to strike.

West Ham took advantage of United’s missed opportunities when Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring. Casemiro managed to pull one back in the 80th minute, bringing a glimmer of hope to United.

However, drama unfolded in extra time as VAR reviewed a challenge from Matthijs de Ligt on Danny Ings and controversially awarded a penalty. The decision stirred frustration among fans and pundits alike, questioning whether VAR should have intervened.

Jarrad Bowen confidently slotted the penalty past Onana, securing the win for West Ham. United’s late push for an equaliser fell short, leaving them in 14th place and with plenty of work ahead to turn their season around.

Diogo Dalot’s ’embarrassment’

During half-time, former Premier League strikers Ian Wright and Alan Shearer discussed the fixture as it unfolded, and their pair chose to focus on a moment from right-back Diogo Dalot.

Bearing down on goal thanks to a lovely ball from Bruno Fernandes, Dalot rounded Hammers goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański, leaving just him and an open goal on the field together.

The Portuguese international blasted the ball high to lift it over any oncoming defenders attempting to block his shot. However, his accuracy was way off, meaning the ball shot well past the goal and into the stands and was accompanied by jeers from the home crowd.

Wright and Shearer know the art of goalscoring well and agreed on their assessment of the “embarrassing” miss.

“We’ll be talking about this in 20 years’ time,” Shearer told Premier League Productions. “The huge, embarrassing misses. Blooppers. Oh my word. He’ll not be wanting to see that again. Absolute sitter. It gets worse every time I see it.”

Wright responded, saying: “There’s no real excuses there. He’s done all the work. Just put that in.”

Another poor result

United have now won just one of their last eight fixtures, suffering five draws and two losses in that time.

The club have slumped down to 14th in the Premier League table, which is so far from acceptable. The pressure on Ten Hag is only rising, and moments such as this one from Dalot will not help his cause.
