Fabrizio Romano details fourth Manchester United signing following Manuel Ugarte transfer
Fabrizio Romano has detailed the possibility of Manchester United signing a fourth player following their activities in the transfer market so far this summer.
Manchester United‘s first summer with INEOS at the helm of footballing operations has seen the club sign two players so far – Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, and Lille centre-back Leny Yoro.
While Zirkzee’s transfer was fairly straightforward, with the club agreeing terms quickly and agreeing a fee with Bologna for £36 million, Yoro’s transfer was harder. Erik ten Hag‘s team had to compete with Real Madrid and convince Yoro that Old Trafford was the better destination for him.

Following weeks of discussions, United managed to show Yoro that their project, a bold, new, exciting one at the heart of the Premier League, was a better option for his career, and the signing was confirmed on Thursday evening.
Following the news, Fabrizio Romano further broke that the club had also agreed on personal terms with Paris St. Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte and that club-to-club discussions were continuing for the Uruguay international.
United have shown in this window that they do not take each signing as they come—they are keen to negotiate multiple deals at once, and Romano has provided an update on a fourth transfer they may make.
The club have been searching for not one but two centre-backs this summer. After Yoro’s capture, they may go for one of Jarrad Branthwaite or Matthijs de Ligt, but the fee for the former is an issue.
“What I’m hearing tonight is that Manchester United are not ruling out the possibility to go for another important centre-back in this summer transfer window,” Romano said on Playback.
“So Man United are keeping doors open for one more centre-back, and Matthijs de Ligt remains an option on their list.
“Many rumours also on Branthwaite, but Branthwaite, at the moment, if Everton don’t change their mind, is still considered too expensive, £70m at least, this is what Everton want for Branthwaite.
“For Man United, it’s too much, and Matthijs de Ligt is way less expensive, around €50m. Manchester United can proceed for one more centre-back as soon as they can complete some outgoings.”
Following Everton’s failed sale, which was announced that it would not go through this morning, they may be forced to lower their Branthwaite demands in order to secure financial stability.
