“I hope…” Ex-Manchester United star names 13 players Rúben Amorim must sell this summer
One former Manchester United player has listed 13 players he feels Rúben Amorim must ditch from his current Old Trafford squad this summer.
Manchester United are looking to offload several players during the January transfer window as they aim to raise funds ahead of a crucial summer.
Rúben Amorim’s side started 2025 strongly, drawing against Liverpool, edging Arsenal out on penalties in the FA Cup, and defeating Southampton 3-1, highlighted by a dazzling 12-minute hat-trick from Amad. However, their momentum was checked by a 3-1 defeat to Brighton, which has soured the mood.
Despite clear needs for reinforcements at left-back, in midfield, and in attack, United’s transfer dealings have been slow so far.
While Amorim has reiterated his desire to keep the majority of his squad intact, the club are prepared to offload several players before the window closes, with most departures expected to be loan moves.
13 United players must be sold
United have been linked with a series of sales and loan departures so far in January. Antony is heading to Real Betis, while the club are trying to find loan moves for both Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford.
Alejandro Garnacho has been subject to intense interest from Napoli and is being tracked by Chelsea, but United are demanding upwards of £60 million for him.
Former United player Paul Parker, speaking with BonusCodeBets, has explained he feels there are 13 players he would like to see Amorim get rid of this summer, rather than across two or three windows.
“I mean, yeah, from the current squad, there are 13 players I would want to leave Manchester United. From the first team squad. Many of them are quite obvious,” the former Sir Alex Ferguson star said.
“I hope it will not take two or three transfer windows, but it can be tough to get rid of them because of their high wages.
“Højlund is the one I am not really sure about. I don’t think he is good enough, but he is young and he has some potential. I would like to bring in an experienced centre forward who he can learn from. Potentially, he can become good, we just haven’t seen enough from him yet.”
“Casemiro and Eriksen are still good players, but they won’t get much football. So, for them, it’s more a case of doing what’s right for them. They deserve to play more football. Maguire is obvious to me, but people keep finding excuses for him. He is just not good enough and he is a big issue. It has carried on too long with him.”
The 13 players Parker would like to see axed
Of the current defenders in the club, Parker believes that six of them are better off elsewhere. Diogo Dalot, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf, Harry Maguire, Malacia, and Luke Shaw are all seen as surplus to requirements.

Evans and Lindelöf both look likely to leave the club regardless as their respective contracts both expire at the end of June.
From midfield, Parker believes that a further three should depart. Aside from the aforementioned Eriksen and Casemiro, the former United defender feels Mason Mount should also head out the door.
As for the attack, four more players were sent to Parker’s chopping block. Antony, Rashford, Garnacho, and Joshua Zirkzee could all command mid-to-high fees in the summer.
