Rúben Amorim on alert as “complete striker” that Manchester United love available for January loan
One of Manchester United’s favourite 2024 transfer targets has been made available for loan in January, with Rúben Amorim alert to the need for another striker.
Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United are beginning to take shape, with the 39-year-old head coach starting to understand his squad.
Weeks of training have given the players time to adjust to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, while he continues to assess their strengths and weaknesses.

At the same time, United are planning their 2025 transfer strategy, prioritizing the summer window due to a restricted January budget.
While Amorim has been heavily involved in identifying areas for improvement, the recruitment process is now being driven by sporting director Dan Ashworth and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell.
Tel on the market
Earlier this year, when United were hunting for a new forward to complement Erik ten Hag’s ranks, the club were incredibly keen on Mathys Tel, with some reports claiming that United were ‘in love’ with the player.
However, a summer move to United never appeared for the 19-year-old, who stayed at Bayern Munich – although the Manchester club did prize both Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt from the Bundesliga giants.
However, their sporting director, Christoph Freund, has now confirmed that Bayern are open to loan offers for Mathys Tel, who has been described as a “complete striker,” in January.
“We’re speaking to the players and also discussing things with the coaching staff because it’s important to us that the boy makes good development steps,” Freund explained to the German press when asked about Tel’s future.
“We will look at what is best for each individual player.”
Amorim’s striker hunt
United have already decided that the club need to bring in a new striker this summer after Joshua Zirkzee has failed to impress at Old Trafford since he joined in July 2024.
Although Amorim has explained that he feels he needs to get the best out of the current crop before the club signs a new striker, various reports have stated that he has privately admitted that another attacking option may be needed.
United are not expected to make any big-money signings in January, but British media have floated a short-term move for an attacking option, and Tel could be an option.
United have a recent history of signing short-term loan players, with Wout Weghorst a perfect example of such a move. In recent years, they also brought in Marcel Sabizter and Sofyan Amrabat as loan midfield reinforcements.
