Manchester United monitoring £55m wonderkid they believe is “destined” to become one of the world’s best
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring a wonderkid midfielder they believe is destined to become one of the best players in the world in the future.
Manchester United are planning to bolster their midfield this summer as Rúben Amorim seeks to address the team’s ongoing struggles in the centre of the pitch.
Creativity has been a major issue for United throughout the season, with the team frequently failing to break down opposition defences and rarely scoring more than once per game. Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only heightened concerns over their lack of control in midfield.
In January, the club allowed several attacking players to leave on loan, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.
Midfield departures are also expected at the end of the season, with Christian Eriksen set to leave when his contract expires and Casemiro no longer in Amorim’s plans.
As a result, United are preparing for a key summer transfer window, targeting midfielders capable of bringing greater creativity, energy, and control to suit Amorim’s tactical vision.
United monitoring Porto wonderkid
According to a new report from CaughtOffside, United are one of several clubs “closely monitoring” Porto wonderkid Rodrigo Mora.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has had a breakout campaign across 2024/25 so far, contributing to three goals and three assists in 12 Liga Portugal appearances.
However, United are not the only team interested in Mora, with Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Aston Villa all keeping tabs on the Portuguese attacking talent.
Although the player has a £55 million release clause in his current Porto contract, it has been indicated that this could rise up to £70 million between now and 2027, depending on his performances.
What United think about Mora’s potential
With Mora impressing many throughout Portugal and the wider European football scene, United are looking to add young talents to their ranks as they aim to build a squad for the future.
The aforementioned report states that those within Old Trafford highly appreciate Mora’s obvious talent and potential and believe that he “is destined to become a leading player in world football” in the future.
However, a similar opinion is also held at Arsenal, which may be a more tempting destination for Mora in the future considering the stability that the London club boast over United at the moment.
Mora continues to impress scouts with his creative and goalscoring abilities, and with a growing crop of young talents popping up across the European continent, United are looking to snap up future potential where they can.
