Rúben Amorim eyeing 23-goal club-record bargain striker who Manchester United already know
Rúben Amorim is eyeing a 23-goal bargain striker that Manchester United are already familiar with after he broke a record at his current club.
Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.
United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per game. Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only added to concerns.
Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.
Despite these departures, United did not strengthen their attacking options in January. Their only signings were defensive reinforcements—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has hinted that Dorgu could also be deployed in a more attacking role.
United eyeing 23-goal bargain striker
With United in desperate need of new firepower, fans have been demanding that the club bring in a striker with more experience and a proven record in order to counter the inconsistencies shown by Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
According to Turkish outlet Sabah, alongside Arsenal, United have now identified Fenerbahce’s Youssef En-Nesyri as a possible striker who can fulfill that role, with the 27-year-old scoring 23 goals for the Turkish outfit this season.
En-Nesyri, who was purchased by Fenerbahce in 2024 for a club record £16 million from Sevilla, is said to command a transfer fee just shy of £25 million this summer, which is a bargain considering the prices of other strikers his age on the market.
Both United and Arsenal are eyeing up a move for the forward once the market opens this month, and Amorim’s club may have an advantage with former Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho, who maintains that he still has a love for United, at the helm of Fenerbahce.
United are already familiar with En-Nesyri
When the name Sevilla is mentioned to United fans, many will shudder following a series of fixtures against the La Liga club that knocked the club out of European competition on multiple occasions.
United have faced En-Nesyri four times, and he has scored on three occasions against them, twice in a 3-0 victory for the La Liga side in the 2022/23 Europa League quarter-finals, and then again earlier this season for Fenerbahce during an intense 3-3 draw during the league phase.
The squad are in need of a player who is able to finish his chances, with United having missed 43 of their 49 big chances created in the Premier League this season.
With Amad, the club’s top scorer, out for the season, Amorim will struggle to squeeze goals out of his team before the campaign ends. However, if United can recruit properly in the summer, this is a problem that can be fixed.
