Manchester United have reportedly been scouting an in-demand Premier League player after Rúben Amorim was handed a fresh transfer set-back for the summer window.
Manchester United are expected to prioritise midfield additions this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to rebuild the core of a team that has struggled for consistency throughout the season.
Creativity in the middle of the park has been a recurring issue, with United regularly failing to unlock defences and often limited to just a single goal per game. Their patchy home form at Old Trafford has only added to the sense of urgency.
In January, the club sanctioned several loan exits, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.
More changes are on the horizon, particularly in midfield. Christian Eriksen is expected to leave when his contract expires, while Casemiro is no longer viewed as a part of Amorim’s long-term vision.
As a result, United are planning an active summer in the transfer market, targeting midfielders who can inject creativity, control, and the tactical sharpness needed to thrive under Amorim’s system.
Amorim hit with transfer set-back
With United and Amorim hunting for creative midfielders who can fill the wide attacking midfield roles at Old Trafford, the club have been linked with RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.
According to a report from Sky Germany earlier this week, United have identified the Netherlands international as a versatile attacking midfielder who could fit into Amorim’s system.
However, it has been well versed that the Bundesliga outfit will demand £67 million for the player this summer window.
According to GiveMeSport, this price tag has been deemed as too high for United and the transfer now seen as a “non-starter,” no doubt to the dismay of Amorim.
United targeting in-demand Premier League midfielder
With Simons reportedly off the table, United have also seemingly turned their heads to signing a more defensive-minded midfielder in the coming months.
According to The Chronicle, United are in for the signature of Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff this summer, having scouted the player numerous times, and the English midfielder seen as surplus to requirements.
THis comes a few years after United were initially linked with the 27-year-old as he was coming through the ranks at St. James’ Park.
However, United will likely have competition for the in-demand player this summer, with Everton also scouting Longstaff and eyeing a potential move for the player with just over one year left on his contract.
