“We want to keep him…” Erik ten Hag confirms transfer interest in Manchester United star
Erik ten Hag has confirmed transfer interest in a Manchester United star that he would like to keep in his squad this summer.
Manchester United have kicked off the summer transfer window with a bang, securing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36 million and 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille for £52 million.
The signing of Yoro has been especially applauded, with INEOS and United earning praise for beating Real Madrid to the young prodigy, signalling their strong intentions moving forward.

In-house, Scott McTominay’s 2023/24 season at United has been his most outstanding, with the midfielder starring by scoring 10 goals under Erik ten Hag.
Since making his debut in 2017 under Jose Mourinho, McTominay has been a reliable and versatile player for every manager over his seven years with the first team, but in 2023, McTominay was close to leaving for West Ham in a £30 million deal that ultimately fell through, keeping him at United for another season.
Now, with INEOS needing to raise funds for new signings, McTominay is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs. Ten Hag confirmed that clubs have been interested in the player, but ultimately, he wants the Scotsman to stay.
“We have very good players, so they’ll always have interest,” the Dutchman told the media after a 2-0 win over Rangers during pre-season. “If you score 10 goals in a season [and perform very well for Scotland there will be an interest.
“We want to actually keep him. When we had the sixes, and he could play in a more advanced role, he’s a highly interesting player.”
Speaking more generally about the transfer window, Ten Hag explained that he wants to make sure his squad is as strong as possible but that he is pleased with the business they have done so far this summer.
“We want to have a strong squad, as strong as possible,” Ten Hag said. “The football leadership is very on the front foot. That’s what clubs like Manchester United should do.
“We’re very pleased we’ve done business – we have Yoro in, we have [Joshua] Zirkzee in – two high potential assets for the future. But when I say future, the future also starts today. The next game is always the most important, next season is always the most important.”
