Manchester United are set to rival Manchester City on the signing of a wonderkid player from Norway who “dreams” of an Old Trafford move.

Given the clubs’ relative current statures, Manchester United and Manchester City have rarely gone head-to-head for a transfer in the last few seasons.

While City have been feeding Pep Guardiola with talents over the last nine seasons, United have been trusting Erik ten Hag‘s knowledge of talent, often signing players he has previously worked with or with experience from the Dutch league.

Since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS leadership team, United have focused heavily on their academy, investing in signing young talents such as Chido Obi-Martin and Sékou Koné in the summer.

City is also keen to invest in future talent, so the two clubs are set to compete for 17-year-old midfield starlet Sverre Nypan.

Nypan “dreams” of United

According to TBRfootball, Nypan, who turns 18 in December, has been on United’s radar since he was 15.

The report states that City are keeping a close eye on the player, while Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille are also interested, hence why United are stepping up their efforts.

Speaking on the United Norway Podcast, Nypan claimed that “it would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United. I’m aware United has shown some interest.”

“But I’m quite adamant that I don’t want to open that door yet. I want to focus on Rosenborg and not think too far ahead.”

United fans have seen him before

Nypan has already played 54 senior games for his current club, Rosenborg, and United fans, as well as Ten Hag, watched him play earlier this season during a friendly fixture in Trondheim, Norway.

He started and played 45 minutes against the Reds, blowing them away with an exceptional performance.

He had four shots and completed 20 of his 25 attempted passes, also creating two chances during his half of football against a midfield of Mason Mount, Casemiro, and Hannibal Mejbri.

He had 51 touches and completed six out of his seven dribbles. He also won both of his attempted tackles, making two recoveries and winning eight duels.
