Manchester United are contemplating a move for an “unbelievable” star after Rúben Amorim recommended him in December.

Manchester United are expected to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle for goals.

United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per game. Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only heightened concerns.

Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.

Despite these departures, United did not bring in any attacking reinforcements during the January window. Their only additions were defensive signings—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has suggested Dorgu could also be utilised in a more advanced role.

United targeting “unbelievable” Aghehowa

With United in need of a new striker, they have been heavily linked with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres, with both heavyweight strikers set to become available in the summer market.

However, with United hesitant to spend the £60-70 million needed to sign either of these players, GiveMeSport have claimed that they see Porto forward Samu Aghehowa, who scored against United twice in the Europa League earlier this campaign, as an alternative.

According to the report, United officials have been keeping tabs on Aghehowa and were present to watch Porto face title rivals Sporting and draw 1-1 earlier this month.

However, United may still have to fork out good money for the player in the summer with Porto having inserted a release clause in excess of £83 million into his contract.

What Amorim thinks about

United are said to be attracted to Aghehowa due to his pace and power as an attacker, with many having explained that the 20-year-old is “physically unbelievable” with all the traited to become a top striker.

The club are not alone in this assessment, with reports from back in December stating that Amorim himself recommended United sign Aghehowa amid their need to strengthen his attacking line.

The Spanish striker almost sealed a £34.5 million switch to Chelsea last summer, but the deal collapsed due to issues within his proposed contract that saw him sign for Porto from Atletico Madrid.

United are looking for more emerging talents to add to their ranks in the coming summer having signed young stars such as Leny Yoro and Dorgu in the last few months.
