20 G/A this season: Manchester United enter Premier League race to sign “excellent” striker

Manchester United are reportedly in a race with their Premier League rivals to sign a star striker who has 20 goals and assists so far this campaign.

One of the biggest concerns of Ruben Amorim is to have a consistent forward who can convert the chances created by his team. While Manchester United are in talks to sign Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap, reports suggest they are also closely monitoring another versatile forward from Ligue 1.

While Victor Oshimen and Viktor Gyokeres are still being heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford of elsewhere in the Premier League, it seems like the United hierarchy are willing to increase their odds to sign a consistent goal-scorer.

Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, both signed within the last 18 months, have not been overly successful goalscoring signings thus far.

Although Højlund netted 16 goals in his debut campaign, he has scored just eight goals this season, while Zirkzee has performed better when playing as an attacking midfielder.

United closely monitoring Guessand’s situation

According to StrettyNews, the Red Devils are closely monitoring the situation of 23-year-old forward Evann Guessand, who has been phenomenal in Ligue 1.

The Frenchman has had an “excellent” season so far, scoring 13 goals and 7 assists for OGC Nice and his International team. And it seems that the versatile forward is eager to perform in the higher stages.

Rumors say that OGC Nice, who Sir Jim Ratcliffe owns but has been put in a trust and are not controlled by the billionaire, are willing to part ways with their star forward for £30-35 million. However, no final decisions have been made regarding the future of the striker.

United are approaching the summer transfer window with intent, given they are already making moves with Gyökeres, Oshimen, Delap, and others. For Guessand, they are competing with their Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, who are also in the race with the Red Devils to secure the signature of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Coud Guessand fit under Amorim?

Amorim has had his hands full since he stepped foot at Old Trafford. Among his long list of changes, having a versatile forward has been a top priority for the Portuguese gaffer.

While most of Man United’s forward targets for the summer window are some of the best No. 9’s for their team, Guessand gives Amorim the versatility he needs, given he can play both in the flanks and as an attacking midfielder as well.

It’s hard to see that Antony and Marcus Rashford, who are out on loan, could be a long-term solution for the club now. It’s very easy to see why Ivory Coast International fits the profile for Amorim.

United are looking for changes in all aspects of their line-up, and having someone versatile like Evann can solve more than one problem for the United manager, who looks forward to changing the club’s fortunes next season.
