According to reports from Portugal, Manchester United’s move for a 21-year-old star is set to “gain momentum” following Rúben Amorim’s arrival.

Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new Head Coach after parting ways with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, who signed a contract extension in the summer, faced a difficult season that left United in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League.

His departure was confirmed last Monday, and the club moved quickly to bring in Amorim as his replacement.

Amorim will begin his role on 11 November, aligning with the start of the international break, and will oversee his first match on 24 November in an away game against Ipswich Town.

Amorim’s transfer latest

Reports in Portugal have now claimed that, once Amorim arrives at United, plans within the club to re-sign left-back Alvaro Carreras from Benfica are set to “gain momentum.”

This is according to the outlet Record via Sport Witness. The report states that Amorim knows the 21-year-old well.

The article further states that Amorim “can take him” from Benfica at United because the club had a £16 million buy-back clause in the player’s contract after they sold him to the Liga Portugal side in the summer of 2024.

Carreras performing well

The former United academy star has been performing well since the start of this season and recently scored in Benfica’s win over Farense away from home on the weekend.

“We came with the clear objective, to win,” he said in the aftermath of the victory. “The environment was very beautiful. Wherever it is, the fans are always with us. It’s spectacular to play like this and at a club like this.”

Considering United’s ever-present issues at left back due to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s respective long-term injuries, fans should expect to see links grow between United and the Benfica star over the coming months.
