“Buy or get lost…” Club sent strong message after registering interest in “top-class” Manchester United forward
The form that Antony has shown since he joined Real Betis on a six-month loan deal after being shunned by Rúben Amorim has been nothing short of mind-blowing.
Antony joined La Liga outfit Real Betis in January on a loan deal until the rest of the season, with the Brazilian winger failing to impress at Manchester United.
Signed from Ajax under Erik ten Hag’s stewardship for a fee of around £85 million, Antony was set to become the next star winger at Old Trafford, although a string poor performances left him as nothing more than a squad player.
Once Ten Hag was fired and Rúben Amorim took over, some thought the player would be handed a chance as a wing-back in the Portuguese’s 3-4-3 system, but he was handed just two starts under the head coach.
He then transferred to Betis on loan for the remainder of the season and has shocked fans with his form, scoring four goals and registering four assists in his opening 11 appearances.
Betis want Antony on loan, again
According to a new report from ABC, Betis are now set to try their luck on retaining “top-class” Antony next season.
It is claimed that the Sevilla-based club will engage in talks with United about the topic of extending Antony’s loan to cover the entire of the 2025/26 campaign, too.
They are said to be happy to cover more of his salary than they are currently contributing to, but qualifying for the Champions League may hold the key to this. Betis currently cover around 84% of Antony’s wages.
Antony’s current United contract has his wage reportedly at around £200,000 a week, with United therefore paying £32,000 a week of this.
United fans react to Betis’ request
This summer, Amorim’s club are looking to raise as much cash as they can they can this summer through player sales, and with Antony performing well in Spain, they will likely want to cash in on him.
While sending him on loan to Betis again with the La Liga club covering his entire wage package would save the club money in the short term, there is little doubt they would rather sell the 25-year-old.
Antony’s current contract expires in 2027, so if he was to head on loan for another season and return in the 2026 window, his value would decrease.
In reaction to the United news, one fan said: “Buy or get lost, it’s that simple. Same thing as Dortmund and Sancho, talk him up until it’s time to pay then not interested.”

Another pointed out: “Full sale only we need a fee plus his wages off the books not just a greater portion of his wages.”
A third offered a different solution that would see Betis commiting to a buy-clause at the end of next season. They wrote: “I’m not surprised they want another loan deal, but there should be an obligation to buy him in 2026.
“At least €25-30m with future add-on’s. It might work out for Man Utd on future PSR front too!”
