Manchester United can sign star Rúben Amorim ‘prefers’ over Viktor Gyökeres as striker ‘discussed internally’
Manchester United may be able to sign a striker who Rúben Amori prefers to Viktor Gyökeres, as one of his players is repeatedly being internally discussed by a Serie A club.
Manchester United are laying the groundwork for the 2025 transfer windows as Rúben Amorim works to shape his squad at Old Trafford.
Amorim’s most notable victory so far came in a thrilling clash with Manchester City, where late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo secured a vital Premier League win.
The club are expected to make some high-profile sales to finance new additions, with Marcus Rashford among the players linked to a potential departure. Reports suggest United may consider offers of around £40 million for the forward this summer.
Despite these potential exits, United remain focused on strengthening the team, with plans to bring in up to five new players in 2025, targeting reinforcements in attack, midfield, and defence.
Zirkzee discussed internally by Napoli
According to calciomercato, Napoli have started to discuss Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee as a potential transfer target this summer.
The report states that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna holds the 23-year-old in “high regard”, and that manager Antonio Conte is thought to share this opinion, too.
United signed Zirkzee for around £36 million from Bologna in the summer of 2024, but he has failed to have much of an impact, and the report states there are rumours of United being willing to accept a fee of £33 million plus bonuses.
It’s said that Napoli may become a frontrunner for Zirkzee amid interest from Juventus because the Premier League club hold a strong interest in Victor Osimhen.
The 25-year-old is on loan at Galatasaray, but his parent club, Napoli, are thought to want around £62 million for the Nigerian international.
Amorim wants Osimhen over Gyökeres this summer
The situation forming surrounding Zirkzee, Osimhen, and United looks like it could be a complicated and dramatic process, with a lot of moving parts meaning a high effort must be given in order to achieve a swap deal.
United have been linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres often since Amorim joined the club. However, according to previous reports from Italy, Amorim feels it would be easier to sign Osimhen rather than the Swedish international this summer.

While Amorim has praised Zirkzee’s abilities in public, it is clear that the Netherlands international is behind Rasmus Højlund in the striker pecking order, and his four goals this season have not helped his cause.
Amorim is thought to want a new striker this summer, and when assessing all the players United have been linked to in the opening month of his reign, Osimhen is the most logical choice for a future transfer, with Zirkzee used as a makewieght.
