Ollie Watkins is said to be a target for Manchester United this summer following Roy Keane’s glowing review of the Aston Villa striker last month.

Manchester United are looking for a new striker this summer as INEOS look to add much-needed firepower to the club’s front line for the next campaign.

Last season, Marcus Rashford was a potent threat in attack, scoring 30 goals and winning the Player of the Season award during Erik ten Hag‘s first year at Old Trafford.

However, United have struggled for goals this time around. Bruno Fernandes is the top scorer with 15, and Rasmus Højlund is close behind with 14.

With this in mind, talkSPORT have now revealed that United are assessing the possibility of signing Ollie Watkins this summer.

Ratcliffe’s Højlund vision

According to the report, Aston Villa’s star striker, who has 19 goals in the league this season, fits the profile of striker that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS department wish to bring to Old Trafford.

It is said that they want a senior, proven striker to support and help develop 21-year-old Højlund while providing United with sure-fire power in their front line.

This will please former United captain Roy Keane, who is a big fan of Watkins and believes he should play for one of the top teams in the league.

Keane’s advice to United

“He could play for one of the top teams, couldn’t he?” Keane said of Watkins on Sky Sports last month. “Villa are a top team but you’re talking about bigger clubs in Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City.

“That’s a compliment to him, not that he has to leave Villa. But he’s capable of doing it.

“The kid is so sharp, he has a great shape to him. His movement is as good as any striker in the Premier League. He’s having an amazing season.”
