Manchester United ‘interested’ in £45m star who answers Rúben Amorim’s biggest unanswered question
Rúben Amorim has a major unanswered question with his starting XI, and Manchester United are interested in a £45m star who may be the answer.
Manchester United are looking ahead to the 2025 transfer windows as Rúben Amorim continues to shape his squad at Old Trafford.
Amorim’s tenure has already seen a memorable victory over rivals Manchester City, with dramatic late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo securing an important Premier League triumph.
The club are expected to make some high-profile sales to finance new additions, with Marcus Rashford among those who could be on the move. United are reportedly willing to consider offers of around £40 million for the forward this summer.
Despite the need for outgoings, United plan to make up to five major signings in 2025, focusing on strengthening their options in attack, midfield, and defence.
United hold an interest in Mendes
According to Sky Germany, United are “strongly interested” in Portugal left-back Nuno Mendes, who is rated at around £45 million by popular transfer website Transfermarkt.
Florian Plettenberg, who released the news, has explained that Mendes’ current club, Paris St, germain, want to extend the 22-year-old’s contract beyond 2026, but that there are no plans for him to sign a new deal any time soon.
Mendes’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is also the agent of several of United’s players as well as Rúben Amorim and was the man who engineered Leny Yoro’s move to Old Trafford instead of Real Madrid in 2024.
Mendes is said to be one of the multiple left-backs United are keeping an eye on should their hopeful deal for Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies fall through amid interest from Los Blancos.
Rúben Amorim has a major unanswered question in his XI
Left-back is the biggest unanswered question in Rúben Amorim’s XI. Multiple palyers have been trialled in the position, with Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot both providing moments of quality, but failing to impress.
Malacia has played well in his limited minutes, but having only just returned from a 17-month absence, it’s hard to gauge his long-term future, while Dalot is more suited on the right. Luke Shaw is another option, but his consistent injury problems make him unreliable.
There is little doubt that if Noussair Mazraoui had a shift in the position, he’d play well, but the Moroccan international is really well suited to the right-hand side and should remain there.
Left-back is one of the few positions in the current squad that almost certainly must be filled with a new signing in 2025, which leaves the big question of who from the transfer world fills the hole.
