Manchester United have been handed a major transfer boost as a price reduction is made for one player that Rúben Amorim loves and needs as Old Trafford.

Manchester United are planning to strengthen their midfield this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to address the team’s struggles in the centre of the pitch.

Creativity has been a persistent issue for United this season, with the team often struggling to break down opposition defences and failing to score more than once per game. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only heightened concerns over their midfield control.

In January, the club sanctioned several loan departures, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.

Further midfield departures are expected at the end of the season. Christian Eriksen is set to leave when his contract expires, while Casemiro is no longer in Amorim’s long-term plans.

As a result, United are preparing for a key summer transfer window, targeting midfielders who can bring creativity, energy, and tactical flexibility to suit Amorim’s vision.

Price lowered for Sporting star

With Amorim needing a combative and explosive player in midfield, fewer fit the bill better than Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand.

United have been credited with interest in the Danish international well before Amorim’s arrival, and Hjulmand is of course familiar with Amorim following their time together at Sporting.

Although the 25-year-old is said to have a release clause of around £66 million in his contract, according to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias via Sport Witness, United may be able to grab the player for less than this.

Despite reported interest from many clubs across Europe, Sporting have decided that they would be willing to consider and accept offers for below his release clause.

Therefore, United have a chance to grab the star player this summer for less than £66 million, although an exact fee is not given.

Amorim has an admiration for Hjulmand

From a defensive and goalscoring perspective, Hjulmand was an integral cog in Amorim’s system at Sporting. The midfielder scored an absolute rocket during Amorim’s final game in Portugal, a 4-2 win over Braga.

Although Hjumland was only with Amorim at sporting for around a year, the head coach singled out his goal against Braga as a “fantastic” player, appreciating his leadership skills – something United are missing.

“It was a great goal by a fantastic player and captain who arrived at Sporting a year ago,” Amorim said at the time. “During the break I heard him shouting in the dressing room.”

Hjumland himself admitted that he was very sad to see Amorim leave when he departed Sporting for Old Trafford.

“It was also difficult for me to hear,” Hjulmand admitted at the time. “I was sad that Ruben is leaving me and leaving Sporting. It is a great opportunity. I hope that Ruben is proud of himself for getting an offer like this.”

United need a player like the Danish international, and with Eriksen, Casemiro, and other midfielders potentially departing, the signing seems a necessary one.
