Manchester United reportedly hold ‘genuine interest’ in a rising Premier League full-back who took Diogo Dalot apart earlier this season.

Last season, Manchester United suffered a whole host of injuries across the campaign, with Erik ten Hag having to manage through an unprecedented injury crisis in defence.

Nine of Manchester United‘s ten-man back line spent at least one game on the sidelines during the campaign, with Diogo Dalot the only exception. Those such as Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martínez, Tyrell Malacia, and Victor Lindelöf spent extended periods on the treatment table.

Shaw and Malacia’s injuries meant that for at least six months of the campaign, various players had to fill in an auxiliary left-back role. If reports are to be believed, left-back is a position that INEOS is now targeting this summer.

With this in mind, the club have been linked with a series of younger talents, suggesting that United want a younger player they can build into the position, and one of those is Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Kerkez’s position with respect to United, explaining that the club hold a “genuine” interest in him. Kerkez is considered a rising star in the league.

“Manchester United’s interest is genuine, so I think Kerkez could be one of the options, but not the only one from what I have heard,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“They are also assessing other options. I think they’re waiting to see what happens with any other opportunities in the market for that position, and they will make a decision. But left-back is another position they want to cover for this summer, for sure.”

The 20-year-old Hungarian’s name will be familiar to United fans for his brilliant performance against the Reds at the Vitality Stadium back in April, where the defender had Manchester United’s Players’ Player of the Season on toast throughout the fixture.

Shaw and Malacia’s fitness and sustainability have been questioned over the last 12 months, so United’s interest in Kerkez will sound alarm bells for both players.
