One of Manchester United’s 2024 transfer targets has now performed a U-turn at his current club and wants to sign for Rúben Amorim’s club this window.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their attacking options as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.

United have found it difficult to break teams down this season, often managing just a single goal per match. Their poor form at Old Trafford has only added to concerns about their attacking output.

With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, reinforcing the forward line has become a key priority ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite financial limitations, Amorim is expected to push the club’s hierarchy to secure new attacking talent in an effort to resolve United’s goal-scoring struggles and inject fresh energy into the squad.

Tel performs transfer U-turn after 2024 interest

Ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window, a lot of talk surrounding Manchester United’s need for a new striker, and the club eventually secured a deal to bring in Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for around £36 million.

However, the Netherlands international was just one of multiple options that were initially considered, with the club also eyeing Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, although any move fell through because the player was focused entirely on the Bundesliga side.

But, with the January 2025 transfer window entering its final week, United are still keeping an eye out on attacking reinforcements should either Garnacho or Rashford leave Old Trafford before the 3 February.

While Tel was once entirely dedicated to Bayern, Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has revealed that despite the London club’s interest, the 19-year-old wants to sign for United.

Tel would fit United under Amorim

Tel has mostly been shoved out wide at Bayern in order to accommodate star striker Harry Kane, and although he has over 80 appearances at the club, only 15 of these have been starts.

Compared to Garnacho and Rashford, who are both wingers, Tel would be a better fit for United, as the “wonderkid” French forward is much more comfortable playing inside.

Much like how Amad has adapted under Amorim, Tel is able to receive the ball and work in tight spaces a lot better than United’s current options on the left, which would be a huge bonus for Amorim.

Should Tel join in conjunction with incoming left wing-back Patrick Dorgu, Amorim will have installed an entirely new attacking left hand side, which the club have badly needed.
