Manchester United told to secure “perfect” striker, they’ve already been tracking him
Manchester United told they must look to secure the “perfect” striker this summer, and Rúben Amorim’s club have already been tracking him this season.
Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.
United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per game. Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only intensified concerns.
Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.
Despite these departures, United did not bring in any attacking replacements during the January window. Their only signings were defensive reinforcements—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has suggested Dorgu could also be used in an attacking role.
Delap is the “perfect” striker for United
The Athletic have reported that United are hesitant to commit money to signing Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres this summer as they are reluctant to commit more than £60 million on a player turning 27 later this year.
This indicates that the club want to sign a younger striker if possible, and one name who has been put forward is Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap, who has taken the Premier League by storm so far this campaign.
Speaking with BetFred, former United defender Paul Parker has explained he sees Delap as the perfect striker that would fit into Amorim’s current system.
“You could say that Liam Delap is an ideal forward to play for Manchester United, which is easy to say because Manchester United doesn’t have a centre-forward at this moment in time, so Liam Delap would make a massive difference,” Parker said.
“He can take the ball down, fight people off, doesn’t go down easy and he makes those unselfish runs in behind. He would be absolutely perfect for Manchester United and a lot of other teams in the Premier League.”
United have been tracking Delap
This season, the 22-year-old has scored nine goals and provided two assists in 23 Premier League appearances, which is impressive considering he is playing for a team in a relegation battle during his breakout campaign.

The Athletic’s report states that United have been tracking the striker this season and he is well known by United technical director Jason Wilcox, who had experience with Delap when working for City’s academy.
While no specific transfer fee has been specified, it’s thought that Delap’s market value will drop should the Tractor Boys be relegated, although it’s also mentioned that United may struggle to afford him should Kieran McKenna keep his team up.
United are not the only team interested. Chelsea are thought to have expressed serious interest, while Manchester City are thought to have a £40 million buy-back clause.
