£150m Manchester United duo ‘up for sale’ this summer as Kobbie Mainoo price tag revealed
According to a new report, Manchester United are set to keep two high-value assets available for a potential sale this summer amid financial issues.
Manchester United’s 2025 winter transfer window has been met with strong criticism from fans after the club failed to address key weaknesses in Rúben Amorim’s squad.
United reinforced their defence with the signings of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, but the lack of attacking additions has left supporters frustrated.
Meanwhile, three first-team forwards—Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Ethan Wheatley—left on loan, along with several Academy players and Tyrell Malacia who departed in search of regular minutes.
One positive is the arrival of promising left-back Diego Leon, who will officially join United on 1 July after completing the season with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay.
£150m duo up for sale
Although reports have suggested that the reason United did not invest in a striker is because a main focus of this window was to right some financial burdens ahead of the summer, there are still reports that many high-value players remain available for sale.
According to The Guardian, United’s finances are still set to be significantly limited, which will make it hard to strengthen Amorim’s side without sales.
Therefore, United are reportedly still open to the possible sales of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, who were both subject to interest from Chelsea last month. The latter had several bids for him from Serie A side Napoli, too.
The two players’ sales would count as 100% profit on the club’s books as they are graduates from United’s Academy, which is an appealing thought to the accounting department at Old Trafford.
Mainoo and Garnacho’s price tags
Further, the above report explains that United rates Garnacho as a player worth around £70 million.
They were seemingly willing to part ways for £60 million last month, but with the summer window affording more time and money for other clubs, it’s likely they would demand closer to the £70 million mark for any sale.
With Mainoo, the number United would want to sell for has been more elusive in the press, but The Guardian state that United see the England international as a player worth at least £80 million, and possibly in excess, meaning the club see the pair sit at around £150 million in total.
Should Mainoo be sold, which is unlikely, he would likely gather a similar fee or higher to the one paid by Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, which was around £80 million.
