Manchester United begin “concrete negotiations” to steal transfer target from Paris St. Germain
According to a new report, Manchester United have begun “concrete negotiations” to steal a key transfer target from Paris St. Germain this summer.
Manchester United are within the 2025 January transfer window while the club is in turmoil, having endured four consecutive defeats across the Premier League and Carabao Cup before the new year.
A spirited 2-2 draw with league leaders Liverpool, however, has offered a glimmer of hope and helped ease concerns about the squad’s performances.
Rúben Amorim faces a significant challenge in addressing the team’s shortcomings, with urgent reinforcements needed at left-back, centre-back, striker, and across midfield.
Yet, the club’s finances remain strained after years of heavy spending under Erik ten Hag, complicating efforts to strengthen the squad.
To navigate these constraints, United are prioritising player sales during January and the summer, aiming to generate the funds necessary for a much-needed rebuild and to set the team back on course.
United eyeing Kvaratskhelia transfer amid PSG interest
According to the French outlet L’Equipe, Ligue 1 outfit Paris St. Germain are facing competition from United for Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
This is not the first time that PSG have shown an interest in the Georgian international, with Kvaratskhelia having been on their radar during the 2024 summer window, although Napoli completely shut down any attempt to sign the 23-year-old.
The 2001-born winger is of intense interest to PSG, who are working on a potential deal, but United have also started their “concrete negotiations” to sign the young forward, who has been touted as a perfect fit for Amorim’s attacking midfield positions.
United are desperately looking to secure attacking reinforcements in the summer with rumours surrounding the departures of Christian Eriksen, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho.
United could use Rashford as a makeweight
United are strapped for cash, and although a transfer fee for Kvaratskhelia isn’t mentioned, Fabrizio Romano has stated that a package of around £67 million is being discussed.
Therefore, according to L’Equipe, an idea has been floated between the two clubs that they could look to exchange Rashford and Kvaratskhelia.

Their values are mismatched, meaning that United would need to offer Rashford plus a substantial fee to get an agreement over the line, but with Napoli potentially needing replacements for both Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen this summer, signing a forward like Rashford may be attractive for them.
United are also said to be looking at a loan move for PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani to boost their attacking options in January.
