Manchester United have stepped up their interest in a star winger who has been touted as a “perfect” replacement for Mo Salah at Liverpool.

In the 2024 summer transfer window, Manchester United undertook a significant transformation of their squad, with Erik ten Hag leading the charge by acquiring five new first-team players: Joshua ZirkzeeLeny YoroMatthijs de LigtNoussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte.

To balance the books, the club also authorised several major sales, generating over £120 million. High-profile departures included Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Despite the influx of new talent, many fans feel that more reinforcements are still required.

Consequently, Manchester United is already planning for the 2025 summer transfer window, focusing on enhancing the squad further to ensure greater success in the seasons to come.

Interest in Kvaratskhelia

According to the Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Manchester United had scouts in attendance to watch Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, with the 23-year-old Georgian international yet to sign a new contract with the Serie A giants.

Kvaratskhelia’s contract expires in 2024, so there has been rife speculation on his future. His agent explained in June that he doesn’t “want people to think that Kvara wants to stay at Napoli.”

The fantastic winger has already scored four goals and provided two assists in eight Serie A games so far this term, and United watched the star as he scored against Empoli on Sunday afternoon.

A Mo Salah replacement

However, since the summer, Liverpool have also been credited with significant interest in the forward and have previously been advised that he is a perfect replacement for the potentially departing Mo Salah, whose contract expires in 2025.

Salah is widely regarded as one of the greatest wingers to step foot in the Premier League, but at 32 years of age, the Merseyside outfit need to find a new man to take over when the time comes.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has previously described Kvaratskhelia as “close to a perfect replacement” for Salah.

“When you walk to a ground on a Saturday, it’s players like him that people talk about; that people want to see. He gets bums off seats,” Hamann added. “He’s a very humble guy.”
