Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has mocked the possibility of Brazilian central defender Gleison Bremer joining Manchester United this summer.

In the last few weeks, various reports have emerged that Manchester United are looking to sign up to two central defenders this summer, with Raphaël Varane confirmed to leave and the figures of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans all unclear.

Erik ten Hag‘s squad are in need of upgrades in the position following a season rife with injuries and goals conceded, and they have been heavily linked with a host of names across Europe in the last few months.

Although there have been concrete links to the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Tosin Adarabioyo from Premier League clubs, another name reportedly on their last is 27-year-old Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer.

Bremer is well known to have a release clause of around €60 million (just over £51 million) active in his current contract.

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli was recently questioned whether Bremer would be one player sacrificed in order to raise funds this summer, with clubs such as United circling around him.

“Bremer, Vlahovic and Cambiaso are untouchable, the others can be reasoned with. These are assessments that will be up to the new coach given that Allegri’s adventure is over,” Giuntoli said via La Gazzetta Dello Sport. Massimiliano Allegri was sacked as Juventus manager earlier this week.

However, the Juventus man then goes on to explain he believes that Bremer will choose to stay at the Turin club, explaining that he is a valuable player. Beyond this, Giuntoli said he believes Bremer is worth much more than his release clause.

He then mocked United by effectively then stating that Bremer wouldn’t downgrade from Champions League football just to play for the Old Trafford club.

The Juve chief went on to remark that he believes Bremer wants to stay in Tutrin to play Champions League football and fight for the biggest trophies. He added to this effect that only a fee in the region of 100 million euros would convince them to part ways with the 27-year-old.

“Not for the 60 million of the clause, a hundred would be needed. I am convinced that he will stay in Turin,” he said.
