Manchester United “seriously considering” audacious summer offer for 138-goal free agent
According to a new report, Manchester United are “seriously considering” submitting an offer for a 138-goal striker who is due to become a free agent this summer.
Manchester United are actively pursuing attacking reinforcements as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to face goal-scoring challenges.
The team’s struggles in front of goal have been evident throughout the season, with United often failing to score more than once in matches. Their poor attacking record at Old Trafford has further compounded the issue, leaving fans and critics questioning the team’s firepower.
Speculation surrounding the futures of players like Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho has added to the uncertainty in the squad. This has made strengthening the attack a key priority for the summer transfer window.
While the club’s budget constraints present a challenge, Amorim is expected to push the board to secure fresh attacking talent to revitalise his forward line and address the team’s lack of clinical finishing.
United contemplating summer offer for David
According to TuttoJuve, United are now “seriously considering” a summer move for Lille striker Jonathan David amid their goalscoring struggles under Amorim.
David, who has 138 career goals to his name following stints with KAA Gent in Belgium and LOSC Lille in Ligue 1, is reportedly seen as a “golden opportunity” by the club to sign a valuable striker without having to pay a fee.
His current contract with Lille expires in June and the 24-year-old seems destined for a move elsewhere, and the Premier League could be a perfect fit.
The race to sign David is said to become “frantic” in the coming months, with the likes of Arsenal, Juventus, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich also being credited with interest.
For this reason, United would have to submit an audacious package to the player to convince him to join Amorim’s project over his other potential suitors this summer.
David is a signing INEOS will love
Being a free agent, David is the perfect representative of the type of deal that INEOS are looking to strike in 2025.
After lavish spending under Erik ten Hag, the club are sitting dangerously close to profit and sustainability problems and must find deals that will allow them to sign talent without spending multiple millions.
As David will become a Bosman player, he would be allowed to sign for United without the club having to pay any compensation to Lille while adding to their attacking line.
He is also a young player known for his versatility across the front line while gaining experience on the international stage, having played 59 games for Canada, scoring 31 goals and providing 18 assists in that time.
