Manchester United have joined Liverpool in talks for Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, with the Dutchman continuing to impress plaudits internationally.
Joining the German-League winners from Celtic in 2021, Jeremie Frimpong has experienced extraordinary success with Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, going unbeaten domestically last season and reaching the final of the Europa League.
The 24-year-old has been an integral part of the clubs success over the past couple of years and now has a wealth of skills and experience under his belt that make him a top target for teams across Europe.
One team who have their sights set on the Bundesliga winner are Liverpool, the club see the full-back as a potential replacement for England right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is almost certain to be on his way to Real Madrid this summer.
They are not alone in their pursuit of him though, as Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will be eager to include the £40million talent in their plans for next season as they undergo what’s set to be a huge summer of transfers.
United to join race to sign Frimpong
According to TBR Football, it is understood that both Manchester teams, United and City, have held talks with Frimpong’s camp in recent weeks.
The Dutchman’s talent in wide areas, as well as defending, have brought him onto United’s radar, with the club eyeing him as a potentially perfect fit for the right wing-back role in Amorim’s system.
One thing the Red half of Manchester will have to watch out for is that Frimpong used to be at Man City before leaving for Celtic in 2019 without making a senior appearance for the club.
Pep Guardiola will also be looking for a substantial replacement for Kyle Walker, who left for AC Milan in January.
A crucial component of success?
United will be eager to make some authoritative signings this summer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Amorim hoping to avoid a repeat of previous summers, where big-ticket names have proved ineffective.

United had previously gone after Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda for this position, before the 17-year-old agreed a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea earlier this month.
Wing-back is just one of many key areas of the squad that the clubs management will be wanting to shore up, with midfield also being another role under the microscope.
Fans will be hoping that United can get one over on their North-West neighbours and sign Frimpong, allowing the way to be paved for a good shot at success next season.
