Manchester United have been handed a double transfer blow as a possible timeline for Manuel Ugarte’s signing is laid out for Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United made an impactful start to the summer transfer window, bringing in Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36 million and securing 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille for £52 million.

The signing of Yoro has been particularly praised, with United and INEOS receiving recognition for out-convincing Real Madrid, showcasing their ambitious future plans.

This has since been followed up by the double announcement of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, who both signed from Bayern Munich for an initial fee of £51 million. Both deals also have £4.3 million in add-ons each.

United are also keen on strengthening their midfield and has been closely linked with Paris St. Germain’s 23-year-old Manuel Ugarte, who contributed to Uruguay’s third-place finish at the 2024 Copa America tournament.

However, regarding the Ugarte transfer, United and PSG are at a crossroads. According to The Telegraph, the Ligue 1 outfit are refusing to dip below the £51.5 million they paid for the player in 2023, while United have indicated that they will not bid as high.

However, it is also explained that there is hope a deal could still be struck between the two clubs. The article explains that a transfer may be finalised towards the end of the transfer window, which closes at 11 pm on Friday, 30 August.

Secondly, PSG have reportedly decided that Jadon Sancho is not a target for them this summer. Despite recent rumours, The Telegraph claim that the French side are “unlikely” to bid for the 24-year-old, which is a blow to United.

The Old Trafford outfit was open to selling the winger this summer, with reports claiming they wanted between £40-50 million for his services, but it now seems as if Sancho is not part of their summer plans.

United were likely hoping that Sancho’s sale could raise a significant fee, but with the final weeks of the window now creeping towards its climax, this is becoming increasingly improbable.

Sancho has been reintegrated into Ten Hag’s squad following a quarrel that lasted around 10 months and has performed well during pre-season.
