“What are we doing…” Manchester United fans baffled after ‘no brainer’ transfer offer rejected
Manchester United fans are baffled after the club rejected Chelsea’s “no-brainer” offer for Jadon Sancho on deadline day.
Manchester United’s 2024 transfer window was notably active, marking one of the most hectic periods Old Trafford has seen in recent years.
Under Erik ten Hag, the club welcomed five new first-team players: Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte.
Concurrently, several high-profile departures occurred as the club offloaded Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, and others, collectively generating over £120 million in sales throughout the summer.
The Sancho sale is one that was agreed very late into the evening as the deadline day end approached. Eventually, after several rounds of negotiations, the clubs settled on a loan with an obligation to buy next summer for an estimated £25 million.
However, a report from The Times on Friday revealed that Chelsea handed United multiple players before finally agreeing on the loan and obligation to buy, one of which was Carney Chukwuemeka.
Although the club signed Ugarte for the midfield, United ideally needed another midfield signing before the window shut to cover Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro. Chukwuemeka may have been an ideal choice.
According to the report, Chelsea offered the 20-year-old as part of negotiations, but United did not accept the midfielder as part of any deal. When this news broke, many United fans were bemused about this decision.
“WHY?!! Take it! Is a no brainer,” one fan wrote, while another questioned, “what are we doing?”
“Are they ok in the head????” a third exclaimed, and another said: “United, are you dumb!?”
Either way, United ended up securing a deal that saw Sancho head to Stamford Bridge. We wish Jadon all the best on his next adventure.
