Euro giants perform complete U-turn on Manchester United man, handing Rúben Amorim big transfer favour

One European giant has seemingly performed a complete U-turn on their transfer stance of one Manchester United player, which does Rúben Amorim a big favour.

Manchester United are planning a major squad shake-up this summer as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s first transfer window. The club are aiming to bring in players more suited to the Portuguese manager’s high-intensity style by cashing in on those who no longer fit the project.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season. Neither are expected to be offered new deals as United look to trim the squad.

The club are also preparing to sell several players currently out on loan. Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to be made available for transfer, with Amorim not planning to reintegrate them.

Casemiro is another senior figure likely to depart, as United aim to reduce their wage bill and build a younger, more dynamic squad around Amorim’s tactical vision.

United’s continuing Sancho saga

When Jadon Sancho was shipped off on loan to Chelsea for the 2024/25 season, many United fans thought that they had finally seen the back of the £73 million signing after a poor three seasons at the club.

However, reports then emerged that, despite the two clubs agreeing on a £25 million obligation for Chelsea to buy the player in the 2025 summer window, the London-based outfit had also inserted a clause that allowed them to pay a £5 million penalty to avoid signing the player.

Although initial reports suggested that Chelsea were planning on keeping the player, recent quotes from Athletic journalist Simon Johnson cast doubt on the matter.

“A bit like Chelsea themselves under Maresca, the last two or three months he’s gone off the ball,” Johnson explained to his co-hosts on The Athletic FC Podcast last week.

“Although I’m assured that no decision has been made yet and that it will be assessed at the end of the season, I’ll be surprised as things stand if Jadon Sancho ends up a Chelsea player still, because it just feels like the mood has started to shift towards him going back to Manchester United.

“I have to say, for five million and a half of his wages, it suddenly doesn’t look like a horrifically expensive mistake, even though it hasn’t particularly worked out brilliantly.”

Dortmund U-turn does Amorim big favour

Amid the chain of reports speculating on Sancho’s future, it was claimed in Germany that the player had requested to his team that, instead of signing for Chelsea or returning to United, a move back to Borussia Dortmund would be his favoured option.

Following this, it was reported that Dortmund were not prioritising a move for Sancho this summer despite his want to return to the club for the third time in his career.

However, it seems as if the Bundesliga outfit have now changed their minds. According to MailSport, Dortmund are said to be interested in signing the 25-year-old to replace potentially departing Jamie Gittens this summer.

With Amorim no doubt hoping that Sancho does not return to United as this would cause him further off-field headaches, Dortmund’s apparent U-turn would do the Portuguese manager a big favour by finally taking Sancho off United’s hands once and for all.
