Manchester United are reportedly prepared to end their pursuit of Paris St. Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte as the club seek alternative targets this summer.

Manchester United are in need of midfield reinforcements this summer after it became obvious that Kobbie Mainoo needs a reliable defensive partner to operate at full capacity.

While Bruno Fernandes and Mainoo will become mainstays in Erik ten Hag‘s team, Scott McTominay and Casemiro have failed to prove they can be relied upon as the deepest midfielder in the XI.

This has led the club to target fresh faces during the 2024 window, with Paris St. Germain’s Manuel Ugarte indicating that he wants the Premier League transfer this summer. However, with PSG demanding around £59 million for a player they want to sell this summer, United are seemingly pivoting away from the Uguruayan international.

Instead, Correio de Manha reports that United have reignited their pursuit of Danish sensation Morten Hjulmand but that in order to sign him, they must pay the £67.5 million release clause in his current Sporting Lisbon contract.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that United are now open to selling both McTominay and Casemiro this summer, while Harry Maguire is also on that list.

However, Maguire himself has recently spoken against that, telling Sky Sports: “Unless the club tell me I’m up for sale or I’m not wanted there anymore, then everything I’ve heard and the action that I’ve been shown from the club [is that I’m] part of the future.

“It’s time to crack on and try and make this club successful again and challenge for the big trophies because that’s what it demands.”
