Manchester United are said to have a £50 million transfer almost secured with Rúben Amorim reportedly having “reserved” the player for a summer transfer.

Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.

United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per match. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only added to growing concerns.

Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.

Despite these departures, United did not strengthen their attacking options in January. Their only additions were defensive reinforcements—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has hinted that Dorgu could also be utilised in a more advanced role.

United ‘almost certain’ to secure summer transfer

Amid United’s lack of exciting forward options, the club have been linked with some of the finest players across Europe. However, one transfer that seems to have much more legitimacy is a summer move for Sporting’s Geovany Quenda.

Quenda made his debut for Sporting as a 17-year-old under Amorim earlier this season and had become a vital part of the Portuguese manager’s system before the 40-year-old departed Sporting for United.

According to the Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), the young winger is almost certain to complete a move to United this summer, with the transfer “inevitable” this summer.

It’s thought that Sporting are not against seeing the young winger leave as, along with the pending transfer of Viktor Gyökeres, they will be able to make up over £130 million in sales this summer.

Further, it explains that Amorim and United have “reserved” the player for this summer.

How much will Quenda cost?

The above report stated that Quenda, who can operate both in the forward line and as a wing-back, could help the club fetch a fee of up to £50 million this summer, although this conflicts with previous reports.

Although his release clause at Sporting is reportedly set at around £80 million, United are expected to be able to secure the youngster for a much lower fee than this, with Sporting willing to negotiate.

United’s interest in Quenda dates back before the turn of the new year, In February, The Athletic detailed that a deal for the 17-year-old is expected to cost around £33 million.

Although some would worry that United could not sign the player as regulations prevent English clubs from bringing non-British players into the club before they turn 18, Quenda will turn 18 in April, meaning his transfer will be possible by the time the window opens in June.
