24 touches, 2 goals – Manchester United targeting £67m star Bruno Fernandes openly admitted is brilliant

Manchester United are reportedly targeting a £67 million-rated star Bruno Fernandes has previously waxed lyrical about amid Rúben Amorim’s need for attacking reinforcements.

Manchester United are expected to make attacking reinforcements a top priority this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to lack sharpness in front of goal.

Aside from Bruno Fernandes, United’s front line has struggled to deliver, with the attacking trio often failing to find the back of the net. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only added to the growing sense of concern.

In the January transfer window, the club allowed several forwards to leave on loan — Antony joined Real Betis, Marcus Rashford signed for Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley moved to Walsall for the remainder of the season.

Despite those departures, United failed to bring in any attacking replacements. The only signings made were at the back: left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal — a lack of attacking activity that left fans both surprised and frustrated.

United targeting £67m-rated Trincao transfer

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, both United and Manchester City have become “very attentive” to the talents of Sporting CP forward Francisco Trincao this summer.

It is claimed that both Manchester clubs are “on the lookout” for him, and his performance off the bench for Portugal against Denmark last week has only heightened their thoughts of the 25-year-old winger.

Trincao showed himself to be the decisive man on Sunday evening after coming off the bench to score twice in a 5-2 win over Denmark, having 24 touches across his 39 minutes on the field.

However, the report also insists that Sporting would be looking for around £67 million for the player this summer as Barcelona have a sell-on clause of 50 percent of any future transfer fee of the player.

What Fernandes said of Trincao last year

Sporting and United have a very clear transfer connection, with the Portuguese club selling United many talents such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Nani, and Marcos Rojo, as well as Fernandes and manager Amorim since the turn of the decade.

Fernandes still keeps a close eye on his former club, and last year, he named Trincao as one of three brilliant players the Liga Portugal side possesses, as well as Victor Gyökeres and Pedro Gonçalves.

“Gyokeres is one of them, he’s scored a lot of goals, but I think Pedro Gonçalves has shown great dynamics over the years,” Fernandes said this time last year. “This season is probably the one in which he’s played best, but as his numbers have dropped since the first season, people…

“What’s normal, he’s created a very high standard of goals and assists, so the pressure on him is very high. However, I think that Pote has been more influential in the team’s play now than he was when Sporting were champions and he scored a lot of goals.

“This confidence that the coach has in Trincao means that he’s back to being the player he was when he left Braga for Barcelona.”
